President’s Message
We hope everyone was able to enjoy a pleasant winter and now are moving into a warmer spring. Rosemary and I were able to spend this winter in Florida, and had the opportunity to meet many Alfa owners at the parks we stayed at, at the Brooksville FMCA Southeast Area rally and at the second AlfaSeeYas Florida winter rally at Lazy Days Rally Park. Thanks to Mike & Karolyn Lippert for running this rally for the chapter. Between Brooksville and the Lazy Days Rally Park, we hosted over 41 AlfaSeeYas families. A few weeks prior to this rally, Dave & Carole Kiesig hosted 47 AlfaSeeYas couples at Emerald Desert RV Resort in Indio, CA. Our chapter owes much thanks to these members for running such great events. Our chapter is in the International Area and the president of the Area is Jay Blumenthal. He visited both the West coast and East coast Area rallies and took time to stop by and visit with our chapter. Jay and Donna are very involved with FMCA on the national level and we are fortunate to have people of their quality willing to help with the running of FMCA. While on the subject of people working, when you read the write-ups on these two rallies, you’ll see that the wagon masters depend on the assistance of attendees to make the rallies the success they are. We want to thank everyone who helped out in California and Florida this winter; your participation is what makes an AlfaSeeYas rally the fun it always is.
We were unable to secure a facility to hold a pre-rally for the Pomona International Convention, but thanks to the efforts of Bob McDonald, 11 coaches assembled at a local Wal-Mart and caravanned into the FMCA site where they held several evening social hours for the members to enjoy. Thanks Bob.
We hold two required meetings each year and members are welcome to ask questions about the chapter, and make suggestions. Since only a small portion of the membership attends a meeting, I am encouraging everyone who has a question or suggestion to e-mail me at travelin_man@iname.com or call me at 513-310-1735. We look forward to hearing from you; don’t wait until a meeting to ask a question.
Over the year, we occasionally receive calls or e-mails from owners who are distressed about getting repairs done, and getting their warranty company to pay for them. I’ve mentioned this before, but it seems to bear repetition…you must read the contract you have with the warranty company. Believe me, they will not do more than they are legally required, and the wording in the contract is everything.
Some members have complained that they went to an Alfa dealer and were told they could not get the work done because they did not buy the coach from them. Everyone should be aware that from day one, you do not have to go to an Alfa dealer for any work…first year, warranty or other. Alfa does ask that you contact them first if you are getting first year or warranty work, and if you are going back for a second time they definitely want you to call them first. Once you have arranged for service, you might find you must return because parts must be ordered. I suggest you follow up with a call to the service dealer a day or two later to verify the parts were ordered, and find out from where they were ordered. The next day, call that location and verify they have received the order for parts and the parts are being shipped. Get a tracking number. Now you know things are moving along and you can follow up with a request for a new appointment to have the parts installed. If you are very lucky, the parts that arrive will be the correct parts and you will soon be on your way.
When speaking with owners, some express the frustration of having to bring their coach to a service dealer, waiting around to be seen, only to find out that parts have to be ordered and the work cannot be done, thus necessitating another trip to the dealer. We have avoided much of this frustration by using mobile techs when we are staying at a park for several weeks. Although nothing is perfect, we have usually gotten the work done without having to move the coach or waste a day. Like anything else, there have been times when the mobile tech drops the ball and nothing gets ordered, but then…did I call and verify that the part was ordered and being delivered?
AlfaSeeYas 2006 Meeting Schedule. In accordance with our By Laws the chapter must meet at least twice in a calendar year. The first meeting was held at the Post Rally in Seffner, FL in February. The next meeting will be held at the FMCA Convention in Charlotte, NC (Aug 14 to 17, 2006).
AlfaSeeYas Nominating Committee. Our Chapter Nominating Committee for 2006-2008 presently consists of Bea Christensen, Dave Kiesig, Gene Bergstrom and Bill Harju. We have one open slot on this committee; if you are interested, please contact Bea Christensen by May 20.
We want to thank the Nominating Committee for contacting members to arrange for the addition to the committee, and for finding a Vice President for the chapter. We thank John Bohn for offering to fill that vacancy in our chapter Executive Board and welcome him as Vice President through March 2007. John’s email address is on page 1.
You can save the Nominating Committee time and effort by contacting them if you are interested in volunteering for any of the offices in the chapter. Chapter officer’s nominations are needed by December 2006. Any member in good standing may run for any office, and may submit their own name to any member of the nominating committee.

These proposed Standing Rules have been submitted by a member of the AlfaSeeYas Chapter. They have been reviewed by the Executive Board.
PROPOSED STANDING RULES
STANDING RULE PROPOSAL #1 - BUSINESS MEETINGS
The two required chapter business meetings, in accordance with FMCA By-Laws, Article XVI, (4), will be held in conjunction with or during the FMCA National Conventions. One being during the Summer and one being during the Winter. One of the meetings shall be an Annual Meeting at which an election is held. During the even years the election will be for the Nominating Committee and during the odd years the election will be for President, Vice President(s), Secretary, Treasurer, National Director and Alternate National Director. Any position vacancies may be elected during either meeting.
Substantiation:
I believe we need to establish a consistent chapter meeting time frame. We are required to hold a minimum of 2 (two) chapter business meetings a year. My proposal would be to have these required meetings held in conjunction with the National Conventions of the FMCA. There is a great many chapters that do just that. It is a convenient time to hold these meetings prior to the convention (a pre-rally), during the convention where with enough notice we usually can get a room assigned, or after the convention (post-rally). This consistency would then allow our members to plan well in advance if they wish to attend a chapter business meeting. (FMCA has reservations well into 2008 for the upcoming locations)
VOTE: __________ Yes ____________ No
STANDING RULE PROPOSAL #2 - NOMINATING COMMITTEE SERVICE TERM
The nominating committee shall consist of no less than 3 and no more than 5 AlfaSeeYas chapter members in good standing. The election of the Nominating Committee shall be for a two year term and shall be held during a business meeting held in the even years. The nominating committee shall select within themselves a chairperson.
Substantiation:
The nominating committee should be elected on the opposite year as the officers that they will be nominating. This gives the committee members at least one year to solicit for candidates' names and acquire documentation for agreeing to perform the duties of the position and their history/good standing. After the officers election they would then have one year to solicit for candidates for the next election of the nominating committee.
VOTE: _____________ YES __________ NO
STANDING RULE PROPOSAL #3 - REIMBURSEMENT FOR ATTENDING NATIONAL MEETINGS
There shall be a reimbursement from chapter funds payable to one of the following: the National Director, Alternate National Director, or Elected Temporary Delegate certified to attend the National FMCA Governing Board meeting held annually. The reimbursement shall consist of:
A maximum allowance of $500.00 for fuel expenses for which receipt(s) must be furnished showing that the costs were incurred during one week (seven days) prior to either the FMCA convention or the chapter business meeting being held in conjunction with the meeting which ever is earlier. If a lesser dollar amount is shown, then only that lesser amount will be reimbursed. Receipts must clearly indicate that distance travel was being performed by showing both date of purchase and geographical location of purchase.
All receipts must be presented to the Treasurer for approval within 30 days of being incurred and reimbursement made within 30 days thereafter.
Substantiation:
The Governing Board meeting is a required attendance by the chapter National Director. If the National Director cannot attend, then the Alternate National Director would attend and if the Alternate National Director cannot attend then an "elected" temporary delegate is to attend. The representative's registration fee is reimbursed by FMCA, but travel is not. This is the one convention that is NOT a selective one to attend, or not to attend, by the chapter representative. The fuel expense is the single most expensive cost to travel to the convention. This proposal does not allow for the return trip, if any, nor does it cover any camping or parking charges en route. The seven days will ensure that the travel was intended for meeting purposes and not for leisure travel.
VOTE: ____________ YES ____________ NO

Good Ideas From Past Issues
Large windows move easier if you clean the felt track with an old toothbrush and use a light application of pure silicon spray on the track.
Put screening on the inside of the floor air ducts so stuff doesn’t fall down into the duct.
Install a quick disconnect on the air manifold to add air to your tires. You’ll need at least 50 foot of air hose.
Another use for the air hose! Purchase an extension with a hand control and use the air to blow off dirt, grass, etc.
Make use of the compartment above the large slide for storing umbrellas, fishing rods, and your books. (Keep the books clear of the paddle fan). AND, make sure nothing can open and fall behind the compartments and onto the roof of the slideout when the slideout is ‘in”.
Have slow (or no) water coming from your kitchen faucet? Make sure you clean the filter at the end of the faucet.
Make sure your tires are inflated properly - check the Michelin Web site for the proper amount.
If you need more storage buy plastic containers similar to those in your overhead compartments and keep them under the couch. You will need to lift the couch to place them under the couch.
Under the couch is an excellent place for you ladies to store your ironing board.
Check the valve extensions on your rear tires to make sure they are not rubbing against the rims.
Did you cut your trash cover in half? Last issue we mentioned sawing the trash cover in half for easier access to the trash container. The editor’s wife added four small felt cushions to the bottom to keep the cover from scratching the counter top.
If you get water stain on your ceiling, Clorox Oxi Magic Chlorine Beach Free Multi-Purpose Stain Remover (white bottle with blue label) sprayed on and left overnight will perform wonders. As always, try in an inconspicuous area first to verify the product does not damage the ceiling. "We had a large 1 x 3 foot stain on the bedroom ceiling. I tried many different products and finally had success with this one.

Sassy SeeYas Red Hat Society
The Sassy SeeYas met for their post-rally luncheon at Victoria's and Grace’s Tea Room in Tampa, FL in early Feb 2006. Eight SeeYa Red Hatters attended. Sassy SeeYas will meet again at the Central Illinois Gathering in September and at the February 2007 Post Rally at Seffner, FL.
Ladies interested in joining the Sassy SeeYas should send a check for $5.00 for the first year - to Kris Huber - Countess of the Treasury 1104 Hampton Rd. Washington, IL 61571-1254. Her email address is bokarcoffee@insightbb.com cell phone is 309-635-8369.
Replacing Caulking -
1) Use a nylon scraper to remove the old caulking.
2) Wipe and clean with lemon oil to remove the residue
3) Clean with soap and water to remove the lemon oil residue.
4) Reseal
Using The Space Behind The Picture In The Bathroom - Our 2004 has space behind the picture in the bathroom to access the plumbing for the shower. We cut some ½ thick lumber to width and length, bought some corner brackets and added shelves. It is a good place to store vitamin bottles, shampoo, etc. (Kris Huber)
Drying Clothes from your Splendide. Although the Splendide unit will handle up to 14 lbs. in the wash cycle, we have found it necessary to limit drying to small loads, no more than 6 lbs. Heavy loads took two to three dryer cycles to complete the washday load. We simplified this by adding a "clothes line" accessible from the bedroom window. We ran decorative white link chain (Lowe's or Home Depot) from one window awning arm to the other. Clothes hung on plastic hangers allow for all the pants, walking shorts, shirts and towels to be dried easily. Since you can insert a hanger hook into a chain link, the items hang apart and dry quickly. The chain comes down easily for travel. (Bruce and Rosemary Monte)
........RALLY REPORTS........
Emerald Desert Pre-Rally January 2006
Carole and I arrived early to dot the “I”s and cross the T's since this was our first visit to Emerald Desert.. Everything went well and after a day or so, we had the basics lined up. We drafted the early arrivals to assist us with parking and greeting. They did a great job parking 46 coaches in close quarters without hitting trees and the coaches going at opposite directions. We appreciated the assistance of Prince Reed, Cal and Patti Chastain, and Gene and Judi Lasater. Also, I want to thank Cal Chastain, Gene Berkstrom, and I have forgotten the name of the third person (not good on my part, but he knows who he is), who assisted the 30 coaches that went on to Indio.
I also want to thank the two folks that gave me a little oil when my coach decided to act up on the morning we were leaving for the Pre Rally, 10 coaches arrived the day before and we got together for a informal happy hour and then 18 of us went to the local Applebee's for dinner.
The next day all but one coach arrived before 4 PM. John and Belle Bohn were the exception who had broken out both of the large passenger side windows that day. John had stopped in Chino to pick them up from Alfa, put them in himself and still made it from San Diego to Palm Desert in time to catch the end of dinner.
Dinner was a catered affair with participants enjoying their choice of Prime Rib, Stuffed Halibut with shrimp and crabmeat, or a very fancy stuffed Chicken breast. We had guests from FMCA as International Vice President Jay Blumenthal and his wife Donna joined us for dinner. The caterer did a wonderful job.
On the second day folks went to one or more of area attractions including: shopping at several different and interesting venues, a dog show, balloon festival, a parade, a gondola ride up the mountain, golf, tennis, swimming, etc. We then got together in the clubhouse for a happy hour and Pot Luck Dinner. As usual, we had lots and lots of food. John Filipizak provided the entertainment After dinner we played a game telling what we as a group liked and disliked about where we go, and also who we look up to or have met in our lives and travels. I believe folks had a good time and learned some things about each other. There was free time on the third day along with a coach walk, and a discussion with representatives from Alfa, the discussion addressed specific problems folks had with their coaches and what the factory is trying to do to make us all want to buy another one and Alfa’s future plans. They noted problems attendees had and sent folks to repair coaches both at Emerald Desert and Indio at the FMCA rally the next two days. After all the activities we again had a social hour before we having a Steak Dinner in
the clubhouse. Several members cooked 100 steaks, TBones and Porterhouse Cuts. The few remaining were used during happy hour the next night at Indio,
We had some special entertainment again, this time provided by Bob Allen who has professionally entertained on cruise ships and other places in the area.
The Vice President of Alfa, Michael Kelly attended dinner with us. He and Steven King provided us with assistance in repairing several coaches during the rally. Also, Alfa and FMCA provided us with enough items to give away that everyone got something to take home with them.
We had 30 coaches convoy to Indio for the FMCA rally, where we did a first, and entered two vehicles into the parade Rick and Patricia Townley had brought a very nice Mercedes' Convertible and Charlie and Donna Musgrave had little Al which looks like a little Alfa that we decorated and several of us walked in the parade and passed out about twenty-six pounds of candy to the crowd. We didn't win a trophy, but we had fun. It's interesting to see what a group of folks can come up with in the way of decorations in a short time. We were parked on grass and most of us took advantage of the electric service and did not use our generator. Carole and I had a lot of fun with both pre-rally and the FMCA Rally and thank all of you who participated and the pleasure of your company. (Dave and Carole Kiesig).
Editor’s note: And our thanks Dave and Carole for taking the leadership role.
Thank you Note From FMCA National VP Re: Indio Pre-Rally and Brooksville Post-Rally
To: Karen Hugo
From: Jay Blumenthal
Please convey our thanks to all the AlfaSeeYas we met led by Dave and Carole their crew at their Indio pre-rally and Bruce and Rosemary the gang at Brooksville. Donna and I enjoyed the dinner (Indio) and the Happy Hour (Brooksville) and are glad we could get to know what a great group of people you are. I keep the Alfa hat (given to me by Dave) right by my bedside.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it to the Pomona and Charlotte conventions and hope you’ll all join us at the INTO rally this summer in Gillette (WY).
Until then, we hope you all stay healthy and drive safely.
Jay Blumenthal
National VP of International Area, FMCA
AlfaSeeYa Post Rally February 2006- Thirty-two coaches were present for the first AlfaSeeYas post-rally held at Lazy Days Rally Park at Seffner, Florida. A number of coaches came from the FMCA Regional Rally, which was held at Brooksville.
A catered dinner was held the first night preceded by a get-acquainted gathering for refreshments and coach-talk. Many couples enjoyed the free breakfasts and lunches provided by Lazy Days. The first day was a free day for choosing activities of personal interest – some golfed, shopped, did laundry and household duties after spending days dry camping at the FMCA rally, sightseeing in the area and some spent time catching up with friends they hadn’t seen since a previous rally. We all came together for a social hour followed by cards and games played that evening at Rally Central.
Day two featured a Red Hat luncheon for the ladies at a nearby quaint tearoom. The eight ladies who attended had a very special time of companionship and great food. A few of the Red Hat Romeos (husbands) got together to enjoy lunch and car shopping. That afternoon we all enjoyed a coach walk, gleaning new ideas for customizing our own coaches. Several of the coaches had repair work done with the helping hands of Dick Albritton. A potluck dinner was the highlight of the evening with door prizes for every coach couple.
Many of us enjoyed great restaurants in the area. A favorite was Parksdale Farms renowned for their huge strawberry shortcakes and their great fruit and vegetables. For those who missed this adventure, it’s a must for the post-rally of February 2007. Information for the 2007 rally is found elsewhere in this issue of the Connection.
Our thanks to our wagon masters Mike & Karolyn Lippert.

We hope you have seen information on upcoming FMCA rallies and conventions. We've listed them in your newsletter for your convenience. If you would like to suggest a local rally (gathering), please inform Terry O’Neill. Local rallies are listed in the rally schedule. A group of AlfaSeeYas can get together very easily for a few days during the week, or over a weekend.
Please check the scheduled rallies and add some of them to your schedule. NOTE: THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF SITES AVAILABLE AT MOST EVENTS. You can insure a spot by reserving now. Your early reservation FOR PRE & POST RALLIES saves you $15 and lets the Wagon Master know if additional sites are needed. Sometimes it is possible to accommodate more than the number originally planned.
Please note: Members should reserve General Parking for FMCA Rallies by calling FMCA reservations (1-800-543-3622) or using the FMCA web site (www.FMCA.com ). Contact information for other rallies is listed.
Note: The cost of the pre-rallies is for two adults in one Alfa motor home.
NOTE: PLEASE COMPLETE THE RALLY APPLICATION FORM AND MAIL IT WITH YOUR CHECK TO EITHER THE RALLY COORDINATOR OR WAGON MASTERS AS REQUESTED IN THE RALLY INFORMATION.
