I have a 2008 Alfa Founder with approc 8,000 miles. While driving (I-25) in WY, the console displays (speedometer, tachometer, fuel gage, etc) stopped working, all the icons surrounding that display started flashing and the beep typical for turn signals came on every second. With those displays lost, there is no cruise control and no Jake brake. After driving a few hundred miles, the dash returned to normal. After driving a few hundred more, the problem started again. Stopping, ignition off, restarting the engine did NOT cause a change in the problem.
My dealer was unable to get the problem to START with the dash console open in the shop. No loose wires were found, but all were taken off/on.
I'll know on the next trip whether a loose wire was the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
My email is petersj007@hawaii.rr.com
THIS IS THE INFORMATION I RECEIVED FROM FREIGHTLINER
Here is the reply from Freightliner and my description of the original problem. I suspect someone else with an ALFA built after 2007 may experience the same problem (The Freightliner Chassis changed in 2007.) Questions? my cell phone 303 521 3849 Remember Hawaii is 4 hour time difference, noon in MT is 8 am in Hawaii. Aloha John D. John, This new dash system has the pollak gauges. If you lift up the dash and look at the back of the lbcu ( this is the lcd display looking at front) it has a small 4 pin connector at lower corner and 2 larger connectors 24 pin and 32 pin connector. If this does not have a good connection or looses ign voltage or battery voltage due to connection or spread terminal this may be the issue. I would unplug these 2 larger connections and look at terminals on connector side. sometimes a connection may look good but by unplugging and plugging back correct the issue. Lamont

After the "UNPLUG AND RESEAT" recommendation from Freightliner, we completed a trip of over 8,000 miles with no repeat of the problem. That advice appears to be correct.
If you have the problem, the dash lifts straight up. The top latches open, giving you easy access to the plugs to the gauges. Unplug/replug a few times and it appears to clean all the contacts. Good advice from Freightliner.
